Brody O'Connor
Attorney
Brody O'Connor embarked on his public safety career in 2001, joining the Ogden Police Department as a Community Service Officer. During his nearly five-year tenure with the police, Brody dedicated himself to serving the community before transitioning to the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
At the fire department, Brody used his police officer certification as a fire inspector, where he enforced fire codes and issued citations in bars and clubs. His commitment to public safety led him to join the arson investigation unit. There, he completed specialized training at the National Fire Academy in collaboration with FEMA. He earned NAFI certifications as a Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) and a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI).
In his role as a fire investigator, Brody worked closely with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) on significant cases, including a major arson case valued over $5 million. His dedication to safety and security extended to his involvement with the SWAT team, where he served as a tactical medic for four years. Brody's expertise was further recognized through his completion of the ATF-TMOC Tactical Medic course at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Additionally, Brody actively contributed to legislative changes, working with the Utah Legislature to amend the state's arson law, advocating for enhancements to address repeat offenders. His diverse experience and commitment to public safety underscores his comprehensive understanding of law enforcement and fire safety protocols.
Brody enjoys sailing, traveling, rebuilding classic cars, and living life. He is a prior director of the Wills for Heroes non-profit which provides free wills to first responders and their spouses.
Education
Brody attended the S.J. Quinny College of Law at the University of Utah. While attending law school he interned at the Salt Lake Legal Defenders, Utah Guardian ad Litem, and Collins Rupp Law. Brody worked at the fire department full-time while attending law school.
Brody received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Weber State University.
